I Never Knew You: Reality Check for Christians

    I Never Knew You    Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. On that day many will say to me, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?' And then will I declare to them, 'I never knew you; depart from me you workers of lawlessness.' - Matthew 7:21-23 (ESV)     The first time I ever read this verse, it shook me to my core. I was always under the impression that as long as I believed in Jesus, I would go to heaven. However, this verse challenged my faith to its very foundations. I am not afraid to admit that it took me a long time to come to terms with what this verse was trying to tell me. Thankfully, through the Holy Spirit, God was able to guide me to an understanding. I have begun doing a solo bible study and now I will be starting this blog to help me put my thoughts in the public space rather than keeping them to myself. I consider myself to be a very ordinary Christian.  I was raised and confirmed in a Lutheran church. Attendance was a real issue for me when I was a kid.
